Wolff opened the ceremony by talking about the on field leadership of his players, which led to their incredible season. MaxPreps Representative Jonathan Van Riper then talked about MaxPreps, the history of the Tour of Champions and the prestige of the Army National Guard's national ranking trophy presented by the Army National Guard. After listing some of the on-field accomplishments of Wolff's program, and congratulating the team for earning their national ranking, Van Riper introduced Sergeant Brian Castle of the Tennessee Army National Guard.
SGT Castle began by sharing the Army National Guard's seven core values —leadership, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage. Then, SGT Castle compared those values, which make for successful Guardsmen, to the values that the Lady Mustangs exemplified as a successful team. To conclude the ceremony, SGT Castle awarded the Army National Guard national ranking trophy to Wolff, who then walked over to his team and presented them with the trophy to the cheering and support of the fans.
After the ceremony, MaxPreps caught up with Wolff and a couple of his captains. Senior captain Adryan Darnell said that the key ingredient to the team's success was hard work. When asked what it will take for his team to go undefeated next year, Wolff responded, "they'll have to forget about this year."
We certainly look forward to seeing what the Houston girls soccer team can accomplish in the future. But for now, congratulations to Wolff and the Mustangs on an outstanding season!
