West Springfield has gone a perfect 10-0 against Fairfax recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Spartans will challenge the Lions at 6:30 p.m. West Springfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.
West Springfield is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Auburn just ended the team's eight-game winning streak on Wednesday. They lost 11-4 to the Maroons. The contest marked the Spartans' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.
Alexa Harvey was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. Clara Sutton was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Fairfax was not able to break out of their rough patch last Wednesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-6 heartbreaker at the hands of Alexandria City. Lions fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Titans since last Wednesday.
Avery Adler spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, Amy Hartle made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Sarah Rupp also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
West Springfield's record now sits at 11-3. As for Fairfax, their record is now 2-7.
Fairfax's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: West Springfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .426. It's a different story for Fairfax, though, as they've only averaged .214. Will they be able to contain West Springfield's hitters?
West Springfield took their win against Fairfax in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
