The Sanford Mustangs will head out to square off against the Monte Vista Pirates at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Sanford had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Hoehne on Tuesday. The Mustangs blew past the Farmers 15-8.

JD Faucette was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Travis Canty was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in March. Trason Gartrell was another key player, going 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Monte Vista strolled into their game last Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Trinidad a 22-0 shutout. Give the Pirates' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Like Sanford, Monte Vista also got a great game from a two-way player: Manny Jiron. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Jiron has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in six consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI, four runs, and two doubles.
In other batting news, Monte Vista got a massive performance out of Judah Howe, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Tyler Alley also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Monte Vista hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive contests.
Sanford's record now sits at 12-8. As for Monte Vista, their record is now 19-0.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Sanford has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .567. However, it's not like Monte Vista struggles in that department as they've averaged .566. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sanford suffered a grim 15-6 defeat to Monte Vista in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
