The Trego Golden Eagles were the 40-35 winner over the Ness City Eagles when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Trego fell just short of Ness City by a score of 42-39.
Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Annabelle Malsam, who scored 13 points. Malsam continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Dani Shubert, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds.
Leading Ness City to victory were Savannah Buller and Rilan Turner. Buller scored ten points along with five rebounds and five steals, while Turner scored 17 points. That's the first time this season that Buller grabbed two or more steals. Danae Rodriguez was another key contributor, scoring two points along with five steals.
Trego's defeat dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Ness City, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Trego will stay at home for another game and welcome Decatur Community at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. Decatur Community presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Trego in Kansas (Decatur Community is ranked 33rd, while Trego is ranked 147th). As for Ness City, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hodgeman County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hodgeman County is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.
