Basketball Recap: Deshler Falls Despite Big Games from Hutch Vacek and Carson Sieber

Deshler suffered their biggest defeat since February 2, 2024 on Saturday. They lost 48-26 to the Thayer Central Titans. The contest marked the Dragons' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Carson Sieber and Hutch Vacek certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Sieber went 6 of 14 on his way to 14 points and eight rebounds, while Vacek posted five points. Sieber is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last three games he's played.

Sam Souerdyke continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Thayer Central, going 8 of 16 on his way to 21 points along with eight rebounds and seven steals. That's the most steals Souerdyke has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Degenhardt, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Deshler and nudges their season record down to 6-4. As for Thayer Central, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Deshler will square off against Hampton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Deshler is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season. As for Thayer Central, they will take on Wilber-Clatonia at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
