Kell proved they can win big with a three-set win last Thursday. On Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Lassiter Trojans 3-2.
Kell wouldn't go down easily and took Lassiter into a fifth set where they got it done with a four-point win. The final set scores came out to 22-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-19, 15-11.
Leading Kell to victory were Sofia Dvorak and Kaylan Malcolm. Dvorak had 21 assists, nine digs, and five aces, while Malcolm had 15 kills, four solo blocks, three digs, and two aces. The team also got some help from Haylee Boyle, who had 12 assists, nine digs, and two aces.
Despite the defeat, Lassiter saw an underclassman step up: freshman Arielle Irby had 40 assists, 13 digs, and six aces. Svana Sripad was another key player, getting 14 kills, 13 digs, two aces, and a solo block.
Kell has now won eight of their last 10 games at home. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. As for Lassiter, they are now 15-13, having gone 2-4 since their three-game winning streak ended.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Kell is set to challenge their familiar foe Rome at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Lassiter will face off against their in-conference opponent River Ridge at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
