The Pomperaug Panthers will challenge the Naugatuck Greyhounds at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pomperaug will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Pomperaug is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Kolbe-Cathedral by a score of 10-7 on Monday.
Pomperaug got a great performance from Brayden Cloutier as he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits.

At the plate, Noah Pane was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Pomperaug's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 2-1 (and 1-6 when he doesn't). Louis Nevadamski was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Naugatuck entered their tilt with Waterbury Career Academy on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victors by a 19-2 margin over the Spartans. Considering the Greyhounds have won five games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Colton Hofmann, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kevin Cestari, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Naugatuck always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.
Pomperaug's victory bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Naugatuck, their win bumped their record up to 10-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Pomperaug has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Naugatuck struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Pomperaug was able to grind out a solid victory over Naugatuck in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 5-1. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Greyhounds turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
