Riverside made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Pilot Rock, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Riverside put the hurt on Pilot Rock with a sharp 20-5 victory on Friday. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 13-6 win the Rockets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.
Cougar Philippi was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Philippi was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one triple.
In other pitching news, Landon Szasz looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, Riverside got a massive performance out of Chase Lantis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, one triple, and one run. Another player making a difference was Roberto Lopez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Riverside always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pilot Rock only posted an OBP of .292.
The victory got Riverside back to even at 1-1. As for Pilot Rock, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Riverside will host Sherman at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. As for Pilot Rock, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Weston-McEwen/Griswold at 11:00 a.m. on April 11.
