Marco Island Academy has struggled against Moore Haven recently, as their game on Monday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Marco Island Academy saw an underclassman step up: Mathis Fontes dropped a double-double on 18 points and 17 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Fontes scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Veleon Nazarko, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds and two steals.
Marco Island Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Moore Haven, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marco Island Academy will take on Everglades City at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Moore Haven, they will be playing at home against Glades Day at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
