Even though the Smith Center Redmen have not done well against the Phillipsburg Panthers recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Smith Center secured a 47-41 W over Phillipsburg. The win made it back-to-back wins for Smith Center.
Smith Center's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Wyatt Overmiller, who scored 12 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Daveyon Orr, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Phillipsburg's loss came despite strong showings from Caden Seems and Rad Rodriguez. Seems dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds, while Rodriguez scored 15 points along with three steals and two blocks. Rhett Shelton was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Smith Center's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Phillipsburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smith Center and Hoxie will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 30th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Hoxie is ranked 241st, while Smith Center is ranked 265th). As for Phillipsburg, they will be playing at home against Hill City at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Hill City focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday.
