The Westland Cougars had to start their season on the road on Wednesday, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They were the victim of a tough 53-31 loss at the hands of Licking Heights.
Despite the loss, Westland still got an impressive performance from Hayleigh Thompson, who scored 12 points along with 7 rebounds and 3 blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Alana Rakes, who scored 5 points.
Licking Heights found their leader in underclassman Layla Booth, who scored 20 points along with 7 rebounds and 5 steals. Another player making a difference was Karsyn Johnson, who scored 12 points along with 6 rebounds.
Westland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Licking Heights, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Westland will head out on the road to face off against Linden-McKinley at 7:00 p.m. on November 30th. As for Licking Heights, they will be playing at home against Franklin Heights at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
