This season hasn't been kind to The Juarez-Lincoln Huskies, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They were dealt a 77-0 loss at the hands of Vela on Thursday. While losing is never fun, Juarez-Lincoln can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 1121st, while Vela is ranked 397th).
John Menchaca threw for 83 yards on three of 12 attempts. Pedro Menchaca was his top target, picking up 79 receiving yards.
Jonathan Flores was a one-man wrecking crew for Vela as he rushed for 244 yards and five touchdowns on only 12 carries. Flores' longest rush was for an incredible 98 yards. Another player making a difference was Jamal Polley, who rushed for 97 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries.
Juarez-Lincoln's loss was their ninth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 5.6 points per game. As for Vela, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Juarez-Lincoln will take on Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line. As for Vela, they will head out on the road to face off against Palmview at 7:30 p.m. on October 27th. Palmview is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
