Even though the Hillsborough Terriers scored an imposing 63 points on Saturday, the Clinton Dragons still came out on top. Clinton snuck past Hillsborough with a 67-63 win. Given Clinton's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 46th in Tennessee, while Hillsborough is ranked 209th in Florida), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Hillsborough's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jojo Cruz-Smartt, who scored 21 points. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Ja'mya Roberson, who scored 16 points.
Clinton's win bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Hillsborough, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.
Clinton will be playing in front of their home fans against Oak Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hillsborough will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Chamberlain at 6:30 p.m. on January 9th.
