Rye faced Somers in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Garnets put the hurt on the Tuskers with a sharp 40-17 victory. The Garnets' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Rye to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carson Miller, who rushed for 87 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 347 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 17.4 yards per attempt. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Miller a new career-high. Rye's leading receiver Henry Shoemaker was Miller's top target yet again, picking up 221 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Rye didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Charlie Brady and Miller.
Rye's victory bumped their record up to 11-0. As for Somers, they moved to 8-3 with that loss, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.
