Two dominant backs in Daylon Cobb and Josiah Lucas are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. Martin will be playing at home against South Grand Prairie at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Cobb and Vudrico Roberson. Roberson had a great game and gained 265 total yards and six touchdowns. Meanwhile, Cobb was balling out in the loss, picking up 114 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also rushing for 128 yards and one TD on only nine carries.
Meanwhile, South Grand Prairie strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They blew past Grand Prairie 54-0. The Warriors' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
South Grand Prairie's win came from a few key players Martin will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Daylon Brooks, who threw for 136 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 39 yards and one score. Another player making a difference was Cash Clark, who picked up 93 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
South Grand Prairie was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 220 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 191 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Martin's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for South Grand Prairie, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Martin has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 219.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like South Grand Prairie struggles in that department as they've been averaging 232.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Martin lost to South Grand Prairie at home by a decisive 56-42 margin in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Lucas, who rushed for 256 yards and three scores while picking up 11.1 yards per carry.
