Appalachian Christian will head out on the road to face off against the Mercer Christian Academy Cavaliers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Appalachian Christian had to start their season on the road back in November, and it wasn't the start they were hoping for. They took a 56-52 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pipestem Christian Academy.
Meanwhile, Mercer Christian Academy's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 65-64 to PikeView. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from MJ Patton, who scored 24 points along with five steals. The matchup was his seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyler Carpenter, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
Appalachian Christian's record is now 0-1. As for Mercer Christian Academy, they have fallen quite a ways from their 20-9 record last season and are now at 2-5.
Appalachian Christian didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Mercer Christian Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2019, but they still walked away with a 52-47 win.
