Baseball Recap: LaPoynor Takes a Loss

LaPoynor was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Mildred Eagles. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Eagles this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 last Tuesday.

Kaden McKinley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because LaPoynor is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-9 otherwise.

At the plate, LaPoynor saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was David Williams, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

LaPoynor's loss dropped their record down to 9-11. As for Mildred, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season.

LaPoynor has already played their next contest, a 9-3 win against Wortham on the 8th. As for Mildred, they will face off against Cross Roads at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
