On Thursday, the Laramie Plainsmen faced the Douglas Bearcats in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Laramie took a 65-56 hit to the loss column at the hands of Douglas. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Despite the loss, Laramie still got an impressive performance from Kylin Shipman, who scored 25 points. Another player making a difference was Ava Reese, who scored five points along with three steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Douglas to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jill Fertig, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds. That's the first time this season that Fertig pulled down eight or more rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Olsen, who scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Laramie's defeat was their third straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-3. As for Douglas, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 7-0.
Laramie won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Rock Springs at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Wyoming (Rock Springs is ranked 33rd, while Laramie is ranked 22nd). Douglas won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against East at 10:30 a.m. on January 5th. East will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
