Westlake has gone 8-2 against American Fork recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 3:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Westlake's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed last Thursday. They put the hurt on Juan Diego Catholic with a sharp 15-0 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Thunder.
Addison Conder was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Ryan Pead, who scored three runs while going 4-for-4.
Westlake was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .517. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .355 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, American Fork waltzed into their game last Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Bulldogs 15-0. While the Cavemen didn't have the best season last year (they finished 5-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Eleni Llsonbee was a major factor no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Llsonbee was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
In other batting news, American Fork got a massive performance out of Andi Gardner, who scored four runs and stole three bases while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. Gardner continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Kennedy McKinney was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one triple.
Westlake pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for American Fork, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
American Fork's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Westlake has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.7 hits per game. It's a different story for American Fork, though, as they've been averaging 10.4 hits. Given Westlake's sizable advantage in that area, the Cavemen will need to find a way to close that gap.
Westlake took their win against American Fork in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 18-9 score. Will the Thunder repeat their success, or do the Cavemen have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
