The Lexington Catholic Knights are taking a road trip to challenge the Bryan Station Defenders at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Lexington Catholic is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games.
Lexington Catholic proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by nine) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against George Rogers Clark, sneaking past 6-4.
Cody Decker was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brady Wasik, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bennie Lawrence, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.
Bishop Brossart hit Bryan Station with a six-run first inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Defenders fell 9-4 to the Mustangs. The Defenders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Chayavone Robinson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Jordan Carter was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Lexington Catholic's record is now 15-7-1. As for Bryan Station, their loss dropped their record down to 9-15.
Bryan Station's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Saturday. Lexington Catholic has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.6 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Bryan Station, though, as they've been averaging only 3.4 strikeouts. Will Lexington Catholic keep running through batters, or will the Defenders buck the trend?
Everything went Lexington Catholic's way against Bryan Station when the teams last played back in May of 2015, as Lexington Catholic made off with a 15-3 victory. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Defenders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
