Softball Recap: Longmeadow Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Longmeadow's game on Sunday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They put the hurt on the Monson Mustangs with a sharp 8-2 win. Considering the Lancers have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Livia Kelly spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Longmeadow let Carly Metzler and Isabella Blue run wild. Metzler went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Blue went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that Metzler has snagged this season. Lexi Winkler was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Longmeadow kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Longmeadow's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Monson, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.

Looking ahead, Longmeadow is taking a road trip to challenge Pope Francis Prep at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Monson, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Ludlow at 5:00 p.m.
