Two dominant forwards in Alexis Gibbons and Kylie Wells are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Arcanum Trojans will look to defend their home court on Thursday against the Madison Mohawks at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Saturday, Arcanum lost to St. Henry at home by a decisive 51-33 margin. While losing is never fun, Arcanum can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while St. Henry is ranked 106th).
Despite their loss, Arcanum saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Caroline Long, who scored eight points along with two blocks, was perhaps the best of all. Long is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Brooke Anderson was another key contributor, scoring two points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Madison came up short against Carlisle last Thursday and fell 43-35.
Arcanum's defeat dropped their record down to 14-8. As for Madison, their loss dropped their record down to 14-6.
Arcanum beat Madison 53-44 in their previous matchup back in January. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Wells, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 11 rebounds. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Arcanum still be able to contain Wells? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
