Given Mechanicsville's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 123rd, while Atlee is ranked 270th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mechanicsville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kate Carlton, who scored 18 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. Carlton also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Ashley Owens, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds.
Mechanicsville's win bumped their record up to 10-4. As for Atlee, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-9.
Mechanicsville will head out on the road to square off against Armstrong at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Armstrong will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Atlee, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Freeman at 7:30 p.m. on January 22nd. Freeman is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.
