MONROE, Ga. -
Athens Academy (Athens, Ga.) took the final lead of the game on Saturday as
Wyatt Settles ran for a touchdown with 4:00 remaining, bringing the team to victory over
George Walton Academy (Monroe, Ga.) 35-21.
The Bulldogs pulled ahead on a
Stanley Williams touchdown pass to
Denzel Coley, and subsequently went into halftime leading 22-13. The Spartans took the lead for good with a Settles touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring seven points in the third, Athens Academy still trailed by two points going into the fourth quarter. But 14 points in the fourth helped AA pull out the victory.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 21-20 win for the Athens school.
The loss comes after George Walton Academy defeated Pinecrest Academy 43-21 last week. The victory was a step in the right direction for the Spartans, who were coming off a 28-7 defeat at the hands of Commerce in its previous game.
George Walton Academy (5-3) goes up against Athens Christian in an A Region 8 game matchup next week, while Athens Academy (5-3) locks horns with Hebron Christian Academy also in an A Region 8 game.
