A well-balanced attack led Almeta Crawford over Stafford in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Chargers blew the Spartans out of the water with a 54-6 final score. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won seven matchups by 28 points or more so far this season.
A big part of Almeta Crawford's victory came down to the chemistry between Braylen Fisher and his top target Alvin Mosley. Fisher threw for 277 yards and four touchdowns while Mosley gained 133 total yards and four touchdowns. Almeta Crawford also got a significant boost from Peyton Long, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 92 yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Almeta Crawford proved: they limited Stafford to a paltry 2.9 yards per carry. The team can thank Jasyn Barrett for the heroic effort on defense: he. Almeta Crawford's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 5.3.
Almeta Crawford's defense didn't let Nate Ray, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for 3.5 sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Shemar Walls and Khaidyn Hopson, who each picked up 1.5 sacks apiece. Another thorn in Stafford's side was Walls, who picked up 1.5 sacks and made five total tackles (2.5 for loss).
Stafford's loss came despite strong showings from Aiden Seales and Ray. Seales picked up 72 receiving yards and one score, while Ray threw for 79 yards and one TD on only seven passes. Ray's passing game has become a key predictor of the Spartans' success: the team is 3-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-4 otherwise.
Almeta Crawford pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points over those games. As for Stafford, they moved to 4-5 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
Coming up, Almeta Crawford will face off against Navasota at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Chargers will need to watch out since the Rattlers have now posted at least 31 points in their last eight contests. As for Stafford, they will challenge Needville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
