The Discovery Canyon Thunder had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. They walked away with a 46-38 win over Palmer Ridge. For Discovery Canyon, this counts as revenge for the 49-38 loss Palmer Ridge walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2023.
Discovery Canyon found their leader in underclassman Hugh Tarpenning, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Tarpenning hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Michah Rohacs, who scored seven points.
Despite the loss, Palmer Ridge still got an impressive performance from Jimmer Weir, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Weir has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Logan Boyer was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Discovery Canyon's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.6 points per game. As for Palmer Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 6-6.
Discovery Canyon will be playing in front of their home fans against Rampart at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Rampart knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Discovery Canyon likes a good challenge. As for Palmer Ridge, they will head out on the road to challenge Pueblo County at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Pueblo County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight last Tuesday.
