Comenius is 1-8 against Charlotte Elite Academy since November of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Comenius Knights will be playing at home against the Charlotte Elite Academy Soldiers at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Comenius has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four contests by 51 points or more this season. They took their contest at home on Monday with ease, bagging a 71-20 victory over Judah Christian Academy. The win was just what Comenius needed coming off of a 111-37 defeat in their prior game.
Comenius found their leader in underclassman Donovin Jones, who scored 28 points along with six rebounds and four steals. The matchup was Jones' third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Spann, who scored 14 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Charlotte Elite Academy struggled with offensive rebounds last Tuesday (1 of 1 Academy had 22 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Charlotte Elite Academy took a 81-64 bruising from 1 of 1 Academy. Despite running the score up even higher than they did two weeks ago (58), Charlotte Elite Academy still had to take the loss.
Despite their loss, Charlotte Elite Academy saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jordan King, who scored 11 points along with six assists and four steals, was perhaps the best of all. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for King. Jared Taylor was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Even though they lost, Charlotte Elite Academy were working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
The win got Comenius back to even at 6-6. As for Charlotte Elite Academy, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Comenius came up short against Charlotte Elite Academy in their previous matchup back in February, falling 68-57. Thankfully for Comenius, Kendal McDougald (who scored 17 points along with five assists) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
