Winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 14 to 4 on the offensive boards, a fact Phillipsburg proved on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Ellis 50-47. Given Phillipsburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 99th, while Ellis is ranked 234th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Caden Seems was his usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with seven rebounds. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for he. Rad Rodriguez was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Plainville had to suffer through a rough 57-26 loss at the hands of Central Plains.
Phillipsburg's victory ended a five-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-1. As for Plainville, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 2-2.
Phillipsburg strolled past Plainville in their previous meeting back in December of 2022 by a score of 54-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Phillipsburg since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
