4A Region I District 3 recap September 10, 2013
Caprock moved up to 411 from 546 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 3. The Longhorns climbed the ranks as a result of besting Borger 54-22.
Palo Duro and Plainview played the most contested game in the league this week, with Palo Duro eventually emerging with a 14-13 victory. Kendrick Buckingham threw for 62 yards and ran for 71 yards in the win.
Caprock's dynamic duo of Victor Rodriguez and Maliek Yarborough proved to be unstoppable against the Bulldogs, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Rodriguez threw for 261 yards and 4 touchdowns and Yarborough had 128 yards receiving. Jonathan Cruz helped Caprock's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 36 yards.
The Longhorns' dynamic duo of Rodriguez and Yarborough proved tough for Borger to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Anthony McClain was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 12 carries, he ran for 95 yards as the Dons bested Rusty Purser's team.
Yarborough was the best wideout in 4A Region I District 3 this week as the Longhorns defeated the Bulldogs.
Rodriguez put up the best numbers through the air as Caprock beat Borger.
Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Longhorns' Rodriguez and Yarborough have proven to be a lethal combination. Rodriguez has thrown for 436 yards this season, while Yarborough has 5 catches for 155 yards. McClain from Palo Duro leads the league in rushing with 127 yards.
Canyon took down Pampa 56-7 last week, the largest margin of any game.
