The Merritt Island Christian Cougars pushed their score all the way to 55 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell 65-55 to Odyssey Charter School. That's two games in a row now that Merritt Island Christian has lost by exactly ten points.
Despite the loss, Merritt Island Christian still got an impressive performance from Trey Nevad, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. Emmerson Hahn was another key contributor, scoring 11 points.
Odyssey Charter School got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ephram Welsh out in front who scored 19 points along with three steals. It was the first time this season that Welsh scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamale Long, who scored 18 points.
Merritt Island Christian's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-9. As for Odyssey Charter School, their victory bumped their record up to 7-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Merritt Island Christian won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on February 2nd. Morningside Academy is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Odyssey Charter School, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Nazaret Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully the Titans like a good challenge.
