Makyree Cross had a dynamite game, throwing for 298 yards and four TDs while picking up 10.6 yards per attempt, and also punching in one score on the ground. His passing game has become a key predictor of Collins Hill's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Jeremiah Marshall was another key player, picking up 49 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Collins Hill's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB seven times. That dominant display was truly a team effort as five different players picked up one apiece. Deuce Geralds was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making six total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Buford). They simply couldn't be stopped last Friday as they easily beat Discovery 71-7. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia football rankings (they are ranked second, while the Titans are ranked 353rd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Buford's win came from a few key players Collins Hill will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Dayton Raiola, who threw for 93 yards and three TDs while completing 85.7% of his passes. What's more, he racked up 165.2 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Keshon B Low, who rushed for 31 yards and a pair of scores.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Buford proved: they limited Discovery to a paltry 2.8 yards per carry. While six picked up at least four total tackles, Dre Quinn stood above the rest. He picked up a sack and made four total tackles (2.0 for loss). Buford didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 9.4.
Buford didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Braylon Williams and Silas Nuckles.
Collins Hill's victory bumped their record up to 4-2. As for Buford, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Collins Hill was taken down by Buford 34-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Eagles, Justin Baker (who rushed for 103 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
