The Wharton Tigers fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against the El Campo Ricebirds on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Ricebirds by a score of 62-60. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (58), Wharton still had to take the loss.
When it comes to explaining why Wharton lost, one person who can't be blamed is Jacoryan Dickerson. Despite the final result, he scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Dickerson is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Angell Gaona, Jr., who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Wharton are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-18. As for El Campo, their victory bumped their record up to 10-18.
Wharton will look to defend their home court on Friday against Sealy at 7:00 p.m. Sealy is coming into the game with four straight defeats on the road, meaning Wharton will have to defend against a team hungry for a victory. El Campo does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
