The Orcutt Academy Spartans and the Sierra Chieftains squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but sadly the Orcutt Academy Spartans had to settle for second. Orcutt Academy's rough 40-16 defeat to Sierra might stick with them for a while. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Orcutt Academy in their matchups with Sierra: they've now lost four in a row.
Although Orcutt Academy took the loss, they still got scores from Ryan Dollahite and Aiden Orozco.
Sierra's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tanner Forrester led the charge by rushing for 51 yards and a touchdown, while also picking up 40 receiving yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Aaron Irvine, who threw for 130 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes.
Orcutt Academy has yet to win a contest on the road this season, leaving them with a 4-6 record. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Sierra, Fresno Christian, and Riverdale Christian. As for Sierra, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-5.
Orcutt Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Sierra will head out on the road to face off against Riverdale Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in California (Riverdale Christian is ranked seventh, while Sierra is ranked ninth).
