Basketball Recap: Cornerstone Christian Takes a Loss

Cornerstone Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss dating back to last season. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 59-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the Heritage Christian Academy Eagles. The Chargers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Cornerstone Christian lost, don't look at Seth Dillard. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 11 boards. The dominant performance also gave Dillard a new career-high in assists (three). Another player making a difference was Noah Schober, who posted eight points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Cornerstone Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Heritage Christian Academy found their leader in freshman Weston Knott, who put up 16 points. Mason McPhillips was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Cornerstone Christian's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Heritage Christian Academy, their victory ended a seven-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cornerstone Christian will venture away from home to face off against Coosa Valley Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cornerstone Christian is facing Coosa Valley Academy at the right time seeing as Coosa Valley Academy is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Heritage Christian Academy, they will face off against North River Christian at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Heritage Christian Academy will also cruise into their next matchup with the timing on their side: North River Christian will have lost four straight heading into Tuesday's game.
