The Casteel Colts will face off against the Mountain View Toros on Saturday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Casteel is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Millennium a 9-0 shutout. The Colts might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Cayden Hokanson's shutout, as he gave up just two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Casteel let Connor Russell and Baylor Denny run wild. Russell went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI, while Denny went 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits Russell has posted since back in April. Andres Armenta was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Casteel kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Mountain View faced Hamilton in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Toros came out on top in a nail-biter against the Huskies, sneaking past 8-7.
Mitchell Lamoreaux looked comfortable as he tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Beckham Barney and Brady Goodman did most of the damage at the plate: Barney went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Goodman went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Kooper Klein, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Casteel pushed their record up to 20-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Mountain View, their win bumped their record up to 19-11.
