McClain had lost six straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 4-9 to make it seven. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hillsboro Indians. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Indians earlier this season, when they won 2-1.
Conner Chandler was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Chandler was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Cohen Six made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Hunter Peabody was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
As for Hillsboro, their victory ended a seven-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-10. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Like McClain, Hillsboro also got a great game from a two-way player: Luke Holland. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). Holland also tossed a walk, which is notable because Hillsboro is 4-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 0-9 otherwise. Holland was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nate Lane, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Walker Pence, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.
McClain wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 2-1 win against Wilmington on the 2nd. As for Hillsboro, they will venture away from home to face off against Blanchester at 4:30 p.m. on the 9th.
