Andrew Little spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dawson Kincer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Quentin Williams, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, Perry County Central got the win against Martin County on Tuesday by a conclusive 10-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Commodores.
Tate Watts was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Mason Sumner was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Perry County Central's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 6-13 when he doesn't). Devin Gayhart was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Perry County Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Martin County only posted a batting average of .042.
Letcher County Central's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of two runs across that stretch. As for Perry County Central, their record is now 10-14.
Letcher County Central came out on top in a nail-biter against Perry County Central when the teams last played back in March, sneaking past 6-5. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
