The Catholic Central Hilltoppers will square off against the Brookfield Academy Blue Knights at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday. Brookfield Academy took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Catholic Central, who comes in off a win.
Having struggled with six defeats in a row, Catholic Central turned things around against Lincoln Academy on Monday. They were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over Lincoln Academy. That looming 3-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Hilltoppers yet this season.
Catholic Central walked away with the victory (and looked especially good in the third set). The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 25-18, 25-13.
Catholic Central found their leader in freshman Leah Kucera, who had six digs and six aces.
Catholic Central was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 22 aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in October of 2024.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Brookfield Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of University School of Milwaukee. Blue Knights fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Wildcats since Tuesday.
Brookfield Academy was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made University School of Milwaukee work for it, especially in the third set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 13-25, 26-24, 25-15.
Catholic Central's win bumped their record up to 4-21. As for Brookfield Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 9-8.
Catholic Central couldn't quite get it done against Brookfield Academy in their previous matchup back in September of 2024 as they fell 3-1. Can the Hilltoppers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
