Cameron County had lost four straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-8 to make it five. They came up short against the Port Allegany Gators, falling 12-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Gators this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 two weeks ago.
Cameron County saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cayden Trumpie, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base. That stolen base was Trumpie's first of the season.
As for Port Allegany, the win keeps them at an undefeated 10-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 13.4 runs this season.
On Port Allegany's side, Chase Boyd and Iziah Petruzzi were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Boyd pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Petruzzi didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At the plate, Boyd earned two RBI, one run, and one stolen base, while Petruzzi got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nick Wilfong, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. He has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kellen Veilleux, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI.
Coming up, Cameron County will host Kane at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Port Allegany, they will be taking part in a tournament against St. Marys at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
