Broome is 1-8 against Chapman since September of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Broome Centurions will head out on the road to face off against the Chapman Panthers at 7:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a six-game winning streak alive.
Broome stacked a seventh blowout onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Carolina Academy 55-6 at home. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Broome had established a 43 point advantage.
Broome found their leader in underclassman Jaylen Mcgill, who rushed for 228 yards and four touchdowns on only 12 carries. Mcgill is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last four games he's played. Kamajay Brackett-Brannon was another major influence, as he rushed for 75 yards and ran in a TD.
Broome's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. Carolina Academy's QB won't forget Dt Thompson anytime soon given Thompson sacked him five times.
Meanwhile, Chapman put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 50-21 victory over Blue Ridge. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 47-7.
Chapman's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Coleman Gray, who threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Mathai Scott was in the mix too, providing Chapman with three touchdowns.
Broome's win was their sixth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-8 Blue Ridge and 1-8 Union County (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 21.9% over those games). As for Chapman, their victory bumped their record up to 8-1.
Broome suffered a grim 32-6 defeat to Chapman in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Broome avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
