Haven has gone a perfect 10-0 against Nickerson recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Wildcats will square off against the Panthers at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Haven has seven straight wins, Nickerson has 12 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Haven is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Kansas' top teams: Hoisington, who was ranked seventh at the time (Haven was ranked 13th). The Wildcats blew past the Cardinals 8-2 on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won eight contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Morgan O'Neal was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Bontrager, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Haven hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 12 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Nickerson fell victim to Hesston and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Swathers, falling 13-0.
Nickerson's loss dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Haven, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.
Nickerson's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Haven has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.1 hits per game. It's a different story for Nickerson, though, as they've been averaging 9.5 hits. Given Haven's sizable advantage in that area, the Panthers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Haven got the 'W' when the teams last played back in April of 2025 against Nickerson by a conclusive 16-1 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
