Varina hasn't had much luck against Atlee recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Blue Devils will head out to square off against the Raiders at 6:00 p.m. Varina has given up an average of 16.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Varina will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Wednesday, then bounced right back against Henrico on Thursday. The Blue Devils walked away with a 15-12 victory over the Warriors.
Rylee Geer made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Mikenzie Jones was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Mariah Stone was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in two of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Atlee posted their closest win since April 22, 2024 on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Dinwiddie 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Raiders in their matchups with the Generals: they've now won four in a row.
Like Varina, Atlee also got a great game from a two-way player: Sierra Kegley. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Kegley was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Leah Austin, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. Taylor Cole also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
The victory got Atlee back to even at 2-2. As for Varina, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Varina might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Atlee in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
