The Longmont Trojans will face off against the Holy Family Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Having struggled with six losses in a row, Longmont turned things around against Northfield on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Nighthawks 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since March 8th.
Longmont secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Cooper Magley, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run. Logan Etcheverry was another, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Holy Family). They blew past Skyline 17-6 on Monday. Winning may never get old, but the Tigers sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
Brendan Ward looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits.
On the hitting side, Dane Young was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eddie Hill, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.
Holy Family kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive games.
Holy Family's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-6. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Longmont, their win bumped their record up to 9-11.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Longmont has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Holy Family struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
