The Chugiak Mustangs will venture away from home to square off against the Wasilla Warriors at 6:30 a.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Chugiak is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: South Anchorage, who was ranked second at the time (Chugiak was ranked 15th). The Mustangs put the hurt on the Wolverines with a sharp 13-3 victory on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
Jonah Shearer looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Sampson Young was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Dockstader, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
Chugiak hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Wasilla got themselves on the board against Bettye Davis East Anchorage on Friday, but Bettye Davis East Anchorage never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Thunderbirds. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
LaLo PaLomares made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Palomares was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ramon Guzman, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Whalen Havlerson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Chugiak's record is now 5-7. As for Wasilla, their record now sits at 12-4-1.
Monday's match might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Chugiak has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .433. However, it's not like Wasilla struggles in that department as they've averaged .436. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chugiak took their victory against Wasilla in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 19-9 score. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Warriors turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
