The Patrician Academy Saints will take on the Abbeville Christian Academy Generals at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Patrician Academy had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three two weeks ago. They really took it to Sparta Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 59-31 victory on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 49-11.
Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Abbeville Christian Academy walked away with it. They claimed a resounding 67-35 victory over the Pirates at home. Given Abbeville Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while the Pirates are ranked 363rd), the result on Saturday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Abbeville Christian Academy can attribute much of their success to Jp Sowell, who scored 15 points along with seven steals, and Javarse Turner, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Turner has been hot recently, having posted three or more blocks the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayden Buckhannon, who scored 11 points along with four steals.
Patrician Academy's victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Abbeville Christian Academy, they pushed their record up to 18-7 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
