Even though the McDonough Rams have not done well against the Thomas Stone Cougars recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. McDonough pulled ahead with a 57-56 photo finish over Thomas Stone. The win was nothing new for McDonough as they're now sitting on four straight.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead McDonough to victory, but perhaps none more so than Isaiah Belfield, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and three blocks. That's the first time this season that Belfield posted two or more blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrik Petway, who scored 16 points along with five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Thomas Stone lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ty Woodland. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Woodland hasn't dropped below 15points for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Jonas Agyeman, who scored nine points along with six assists.
McDonough pushed their record up to 9-2 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Thomas Stone, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-4.
McDonough will take on Chopticon at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Chopticon is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games. As for Thomas Stone, they will head out on the road to face off against Huntingtown at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Huntingtown will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Maryland Rankings (they are ranked 207th, while Thomas Stone is ranked 84th).
