Northwest Rankin is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Brandon, who was ranked 21st at the time (Northwest Rankin was ranked fifth). Northwest Rankin's defense stepped up to hand Brandon a 1-0 shutout on Tuesday. That's two games straight that the Cougars have won by just one goal.

Their one-goal win came courtesy of Matthew Todd, who's now up to 11 this season.

Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Meridian's offense. They came up short against Brandon on Wednesday, falling 7-0. That's two games in a row now that the Wildcats have lost by exactly seven goals.

Northwest Rankin has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those nine contests. As for Meridian, their loss dropped their record down to 2-14.
