The Hesperia Christian Patriots will head out on the road to take on the Barstow Aztecs at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Hesperia Christian's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. Everything went their way against Silver Valley as they made off with an 18-0 victory.
Eden Skinner and Riley Cooper did most of the damage at the plate: Skinner went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple, while Cooper went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Cooper has posted since back in February. Sami Lewis also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Hesperia Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Barstow was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of Adelanto. Even though they lost, the Aztecs' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.4 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Elizibeth Arreola was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Madalyn Ayala, who scored two runs while going 4-for-4.
Hesperia Christian is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-7-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Barstow, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hesperia Christian hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .386. However, it's not like Barstow struggles in that department as they've averaged .394. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
