Castle View is 1-8 against Chaparral since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Castle View Sabercats on the road again and play against the Chaparral Wolverines at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Castle View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday.
Castle View struggled with offensive rebounds on Friday (Mountain Vista had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Castle View took a 63-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mountain Vista. While losing is never fun, Castle View can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 48th, while Mountain Vista is ranked seventh).
Despite the defeat, Castle View had strong showings from Evan Mckean, who scored 24 points along with two steals, and Vitorio Dante, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Dante is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Chaparral was able to grind out a solid win over Regis Jesuit on Friday, taking the game 61-53.
It was another big night for Gavin Carter, who scored 22 points along with six assists and two steals. Christian Williams was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with five rebounds.
Castle View's record is now 10-4. As for Chaparral, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season.
Tuesday's matchup will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Mckean and Carter. Mckean has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 18.1 points, 2.9 steals, and 6.7 rebounds. For his part, Carter has averaged 21.7 points, 2.2 steals, and 4.1 assists.
Castle View beat Chaparral 62-55 in their previous matchup back in January of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Chaparral's Brayden Munroe, who scored 22 points along with six rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Castle View to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
