The North Canyon Rattlers's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Eastmark Firebirds at 3:00 p.m. on December 26th. Hopefully North Canyon focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Thursday.
Last Thursday, North Canyon was beaten by Desert Mountain 85-52. While losing is never fun, North Canyon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while Desert Mountain is ranked first).
Wyatt Mackay put forth a good effort for the losing side as he scored 35 points. He scored a full 67.3% of North Canyon's points, the ninth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Dante Vella was another key contributor, scoring 15 points.
Meanwhile, Eastmark entered their tilt with Cortez with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Eastmark came out on top against Cortez by a score of 62-52 on Monday.
Eastmark's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Timothy Gorham, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 21 rebounds. The contest was Gorham's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Rhys Walcott, who scored 19 points.
North Canyon now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Eastmark, their win bumped their record up to 8-4.
Keep an eye on the arc in Tuesday's contest: North Canyon have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 6.4 threes per game. It's a different story for Eastmark, though, as they've been averaging only 6.8 threes per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
